Concept: The Forgotten Privilege

As business leaders, we have an extraordinary privilege. We have the freedom to make decisions that can fundamentally change our businesses, our lives, and the lives of those around us.

Think about how powerful that really is.

We can take something that doesn't exist today and turn it into reality. It's one of the most remarkable aspects of being an entrepreneur.

We exercise this ability constantly in business. Identifying what matters most and committing the resources needed to move forward. We establish a project owner, milestones, measurables and a deadline with accountability.

Yet in our personal lives, we often spend years thinking about meaningful changes without ever allocating the same resources to truly make them a reality.

What's interesting is that there’s usually one keystone decision in our personal lives that has the potential to positively impact everything else. It unlocks energy and resources.

It could be prioritizing physical health, investing intentionally in a relationship, or addressing something we've been putting off for years.

One meaningful personal change can improve our energy, relationships, clarity, and ultimately the way we show up in our businesses.

Stephen Covey wrote, "Private victories precede public victories."

As entrepreneurs, we tend to focus tremendous energy on creating external success, while overlooking the personal decisions that may have the greatest influence on that success.

Today, we have a unique opportunity to apply our entrepreneurial ability to our personal lives, beginning with the one keystone decision that could move everything else forward.

Reflection: What is the one keystone decision in your personal life, right now, that would have the greatest positive impact on everything else?

Consider the personal goal you've thought about for years but haven't given the same attention you would give a business priority.

Really think about it…

What personal decision have you been postponing that, if you made it today, would unlock energy for other areas of your life?

First Action: Make one commitment, small or large, to move it forward.

Commit and do it now.

For me, that decision was optimizing my physical health. Although I've maintained good health for years, I wanted to reach a higher level. An athlete’s level of physical performance. It was a goal I’ve had on the list for years, even a monthly reminder with measurables like 180lbs and 10.5% body fat…but, I put no real resources behind it. Only a stated goal.

This past month, that changed, I finally decided to hire a coach, establish targets for physical fitness, nutrition and sleep. And have full accountability.

In the first few weeks I’ve already unlocked more energy and it’s starting to pour over to other areas of my life.

Identify the one decision that could have the greatest impact for you, and take the first step toward making it a reality.
